Which jobs aside from being a Social Media Manager works well for someone who interned as a social media marketing intern in an advertising agency? The title says it all. I wrote this post because I got rejected from what was supposed to be a career launchpad program for fresh graduates at a famous ad agency. At the time of writing, I'm looking for some jobs I can apply to any agency regardless of their fame. It would be a big help for me to give me a piece of advice for an English major who's passionate into the world of advertising. Cheers!

As an English major with experience as a social media marketing intern in an advertising agency, there are several job roles that you can consider. Here are a few options:

  1. Content Writer/Copywriter: Your experience in social media marketing will have given you a good understanding of creating engaging content for various platforms. You can utilize this skill by pursuing a career as a content writer or copywriter. This role involves creating compelling and persuasive written content for advertising campaigns, websites, blogs, social media posts, and more.

  2. Digital Marketing Specialist: With your knowledge of social media marketing, you can explore a career as a digital marketing specialist. In this role, you will develop and implement digital marketing strategies, including social media campaigns, SEO optimization, email marketing, and paid advertising. Your experience in social media marketing will be valuable in understanding how to reach and engage target audiences effectively.

  3. Account Coordinator/Assistant: Consider applying for entry-level positions as an account coordinator or assistant in advertising agencies. In this role, you will support account managers and executives in managing client relationships, coordinating projects, and ensuring smooth communication between clients and the agency. Your internship experience will demonstrate your understanding of the advertising industry and your ability to work in a fast-paced environment.

  4. Marketing Coordinator: As a marketing coordinator, you will assist in the development and execution of marketing campaigns, including social media initiatives. Your experience in social media marketing will be beneficial in implementing and monitoring social media strategies, analyzing campaign performance, and contributing to overall marketing efforts.

  5. Public Relations Assistant: With your background in social media marketing, you can also consider a career in public relations. As a PR assistant, you will support PR managers in executing media relations strategies, managing social media accounts, drafting press releases, and coordinating events. Your experience in social media marketing will provide you with insights into effective communication and engagement strategies.

When applying for these positions, emphasize your internship experience and highlight specific projects or campaigns you worked on. Showcase your ability to create engaging content, analyze data, and collaborate with cross-functional teams. Additionally, consider obtaining certifications or further education in areas such as digital marketing, content writing, or public relations to enhance your skills and marketability.

Remember, while the rejection from the career launchpad program may feel discouraging, it is important to stay positive and continue pursuing opportunities in the advertising industry. Keep networking, building your portfolio, and seeking out internships or entry-level positions that align with your career goals.
