Jao Mapa, the former '90s heartthrob, stepped away from showbiz after experiencing the demanding lifestyle and pressures of fame. He worked almost non-stop for seven years, which led him to feel burnt out. Jao mentioned that he needed a break to focus on himself and his family, as well as to pursue other passions, like art. He went back to school and earned a degree in Fine Arts with a major in Advertising from the University of Santo Tomas.

During his time away from the spotlight, he explored painting and found fulfillment in that creative outlet. Although he has returned to acting, he emphasizes that painting remains a significant passion for him.
