"Salamin ni Lola" is a haunting Tagalog horror animation about Maya, a young woman who inherits an old, intricately designed mirror from her grandmother, Lola Esther, after her passing. The mirror, which had always hung in Lola's bedroom, holds sentimental value for Maya, so she decides to take it home and hang it in her own room. However, once the mirror is in her possession, strange and terrifying events begin to unfold.
At first, Maya notices subtle things—shadows moving in the reflection when no one else is in the room, and eerie whispers that seem to come from the mirror itself. As the days pass, the occurrences grow more intense. She starts seeing fleeting images of her deceased Lola in the mirror, her face twisted with sorrow and anger. Objects in her room move on their own, and Maya feels as though she’s being watched constantly.
In a desperate attempt to understand what’s happening, Maya visits an old family friend who reveals that the mirror was once used in a forbidden ritual by Lola Esther in her youth—a ritual that trapped restless spirits within its reflective surface. These spirits, angered and imprisoned, now seek an escape, using Maya as their way out.
As the paranormal activity escalates, Maya realizes that the spirits' growing power threatens not only her, but anyone around her. With time running out, Maya must find a way to break the curse tied to Salamin ni Lola before the spirits claim her soul.
"Salamin ni Lola" is a spine-chilling story that delves into themes of family, hidden pasts, and the dangers of the supernatural. With its eerie atmosphere and unsettling revelations, the animation taps into Filipino beliefs about cursed objects and the haunting consequences of meddling with the unknown.
